DMCA Copyright Violation Code 428975234324lksadjfw

Tue Nov 20, 2007, 3:41 PM
DeviantArt took down all my vector traces because of copyright infringement.

I really don't want to whine about this because the reality is that all my vector traces are traces of screenshots. I mean, it's not easy making all those bezier curves/paths and anchoring those points in Adobe Illustrator, but it's not really my own work. The only reason why I do this is so I can get a higher resolution version of a certain scene I like. I put it up on dA to share it because I figure that there's a certain amount of demand for this stuff.

At the same time, I honestly don't get it either. There are tons of other vector traces of copyrighted materials out there. Just do a search on DeviantArt with the keywords "vector trace" and you will find countless traces of copyrighted material showing up in the search results.

I don't know what to do with that information. Did dA think that my vector traces were just edits or something? Should I just put them back up? Otherwise, I think I'm done submitting stuff here.

Hi! It's amazing I found someone who likes Misty as much as me. I love your art! It's cool you let people post it on #poketmonsters. So... Do you want to join my Misty fan club (once I get it working)?

Hi. I hate to bother you, but you do realize that taking screencaps from shows and calling it your artwork is art theft, right?

But, these aren't just raw screencaps, these are vector traces of screen captures. I use vector shapes to trace scenes, usually of a lower resolution, in order to get a sharper, better quality image since these images aren't defined by pixels but by mathematically defined bezier curves. Please read the Wikipedia article on vector graphics: [link]

I don't claim to be the original artist of these images. Or at least I try not to. Any implication or claim that says I am the artist of the source image is false and erroneous. However, I can't make any claim saying that I had nothing to do with these images because that would be lying; I outlined the images using Adobe Illustrator which itself isn't an easy task: [link]

All right, you have a fair point. It seems a lot like screencap editing to me, but I could be wrong. I apologize for bothering you.

It's not screen cap editing at all. I'm not editing anything. Editing would involve me taking the source image and manipulating the elements of the image. What I'm doing is reconstructing the source image using vectors. I only use the source image as a reference.
